Admin Project & Time Approval Producing Error

M

Mike@IT

I have one user that has entered time for an administrative project that I
am unable to approve. Each time I do the following happens:

Click Update in PWS to approve the timecard. The following error appears
once it has launched MS Project:
"Some approved task changes cannot be updated in Project files. Click view
details for more information. If you rejected a task, the resource has been
notified by email. Please save your Project files with the new updates.
The updated tasks will remain in the table until you hsave the project
files."
Click View Details button = "1.Project_Name: Unknown error"

When I now close the open project file, it prompts me to save, but the name
it shows is not the project name but instead "MSPJ0016.MTM" each time I try
this process, the number within the file increments up one. I have tried to
say yes & no.

No other user produces this error, even if they enter time into the same
task as this one user. What options do I have to fix this?
Running Windows Server 2000, Project Web 2003 & MS Project Professional 2003
SP2.

Thanks.

Hi Mike,
We are experiencing the exact same problem, but don't know which user is
causing it. We also get a spooler error, and have the same environment.

Victoria,
Have you had any luck with a solution? I have not been able to resolve as of
yet.
Thanks.

Hi Mike,
The individual managing the admin project reverified his copy of Project
Professional (right click the Project Professional icon and select
"Verify"). For some reason, PP gets corrupt and has to be fixed sometimes.
We have had a few instances of PP going this way. You will know it if you
see one user having a lot of problems and crazy, unexplainable data that they
see and you don't. You can get them to go to another computer and try things
there to see if it in fact their computer.

We have also had a lot of problems with admin. projects being corrupt.
They have been created improperly and used for forecasting into the future, a
big no no. So essentially many will have to be recreated. Other possible
causes may be the project name. We have had numerous project names with
"illegal" characters, that seems to affect the synchronization of data.
Sometimes, it is a local user that has been created improperly. Just a few
possibilities. ( I inherited this mess by the way, these things I would NOT
have implemented ) so it is hard in our case to discover the real problem,
because so much of it is a problem!

Hope this helps.
