Administrative Calendar poking

I'm being asked to place a calendar entry on everyone's calendar. This is for
things like notifying people of a patch cycle coming up.

The folks asking for this do not want this to be something the public has to
accept in order to place this entry on everyone's calendar. Just poke it in
there, give a 24 hour reminder and that's it.

They do not want to use a public calendar for this.

Control of the calendar is always left to the user. Forcing an appointment
is problematic at best and poor practice at least. Have your HR department
disseminate policy that Software Updates/Patch appointments are required to
be accepted. Otherwise, let the folks who don't suffer the consequences of
having their work interrupted with a forced reboot in the middle of a long
complex document.
