Administrative Installation Point Setup Takes LONG Time

R

Romual Piecyk

I am trying to set up an administrative installation point
for Office 2000 on one of my servers. The "Installing
Microsoft Office 2000..." progress bar window is up, but
taking a VERY long time to complete.

It is moving, but very slowly. It has been going for 2
hours now, and only about half way done.

It is running directly on the server where the point will
be housed. I have tried it from a workstation on the
network (installing it from a workstation to the server's
share), and it was just as slow.

Of note, there are 4 instances running of MSIEXEC.EXE in
Task Manager. My server has a gig of RAM, and 1.5gb of
virtual RAM (not running on boot partition). It also has 4
XEON 1/7ghz processors. RAM and processor are not the
bottleneck!

Any thoughts, ideas, experiences will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend you simply run Setup /a on a workstation and point the setup to
a folder on the workstation. Then, when the setup is finished, you can
copy/move the folder to your network share. Office administrative
installation folders are fully transportable.
