"Administrative projects" feature of Project Server.

Hello!
We have a lot of problems with "administrative projects" - non-project
items for which we need to report time (vacation days, sick time, etc).
The problem is that these administrative projects still seem to behave
like normal projects. For example, MS Project still tries to calculate
an end date, a task duration, the amount of remaining work, etc, for
things like sick time or vacation. I would really appreciate if I could
get any help on how to correctly use the "administrative project"
feature of Project Server.

Glimmer - Welcome! Admin projects can be a pain in the neck. First of
all, I would recommend that you retrieve this article and study it:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011038751033.aspx and
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP010491091033.aspx

For an Admin project to work, it must is must be a fixed duration, non
effort driven task. The Microsoft Project Server Admin template has
them set with a single day's duration. It must also be saved using
File > Save As, and then select the Administrative project checkbox.
Based on what you describe, I think this step was omitted.

Also know that lots of people have various problems with the Admin
Template that Microsoft provides. Dale Howard and Gary Chefetz
recommend a better method which has been discussed many times in this
forum. Do a search for Admin projects and you will find it.

Don't assign effort estimates in an Admin plan; it will mess up your
resource allocations. Set up your tasks as fixed duration, non effort
driven, assign the resources with 0% units for each task.
Hope this helped.

projects! :)
