ADO shape command usage

So I discovered that if I want to edit data in 2 joined tables you need to
use the shape command instead of a join.

Now I would like to combine data from a table that I can edit and display
(read only) data from a view in the ms sql database in a repeating table. I
get an error when I try to do this. Is this allowed?
