Advanced Encryption in Mac Excel and Office

Is there any way to use advanced encryption for documents in excel (and office in general) for mac?

I've got a number of encrypted files that Mac Office says I must decrypted on a Windows PC and then save without real encryption before using them on Mac. Isn't there a program, even a non Microsoft app, that'll do this on a Mac instead?

Are you talking about XL's internal protection? If so, MacXL won't be
able to manipulate WinXL-only protection.

WInXL's file protection/encryption should work fine with MacXL.

Otherwise, I'm not familiar with any encryption native to XL.

I am having the same problem: created a .xls workbook on a pc, then tried to open on my mac using mac excel and get an error message that I have to open on the pc and remove the encryption... that does not make sense that I should have to do this. Please help.

Whether or not it makes sense, that's what you have to do. Macintosh Excel
2008 does not use the same encryption that is used on Windows, and therefore
can not read the encrypted file.
