The VBE is the Visual Basic Editor, which is an environment which allows
one to write and edit Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) subroutines
and functions.
Macros in all modern XL versions are recorded/written in VBA.
XL4 Macro language is still implemented, and in some cases can still do
things that VBA can't, but it's no longer actively supported, and the
number of people who use it is dwindling.
