Advantages of MPT over MPP?

We are just about to publish a new WBS template into our Quality Management
System for use by PMs. If I want to default New Tasks start on current date
and Tasks are Fixed Units for example should I really be saving as a MPT or
MPP? If the former can the Users just then use it as it is or must they need
to update their global template first?

Steve,
The settings such as New Tasks start on current date and Tasks are Fixed
Units, defined in the template (mpt) have priority on those defined in the
Windows Registry (when you click Set as default in the Tools / Options
dialog).
