Aestricks now replacing dates in a column. Why?

In a column of dates in which I cumlatively add new dates ito cells n an
activity chart, today, for some reason aestricks are now being typed when I
try to type a date into the cell. I've changed nothing to my knowledge and
don't know how to correct this. Any advice?

Are you really seeing asterisks (****) or ####?

If you're seeing ####'s, try widening the column width.
