I have my email come through my website and forwarded to entourage. I'll spend an hour cleaning up my messages...deleting some, saving others, etc. When I delete them they are gone, as they don't stay in a deleted Items file. But then an hour later, all the deleted messages are dumped back into my mail. Why is this? What am I doing wrong. I have it checked off to save messages for 5 days on the server. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Diane: Thanks for your reply. This is strange, because it used to do this: If I deleted a message, it would send it to the delete folder, and then at a later date, I would physically go into the delete folder and remove the messages from my computer. That's what I want to happen. But out of nowhere, now when I delete a message, it's gone...completely. How do I get it back the way it was? Thanks, Robert

Are you somehow using the nuke script to delete? This bypasses the Deleted
Items folder and it's gone. Do you use some third party application like
Keyboard Maestro to change shortcuts? Be sure to check in System
Preferences... you can modify keystrokes there too.

Can you see it at all in the Deleted Items folder?

Exactly how do you delete? Keystoke, menu item, icon for delete?

I have never heard of database corruption causing something like this to
happen.

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there. If the problem is in your
User's account, then log out/in with Shift key down to disable any startup
items. Test. If the problem still exists, it's most likely a preference file
that's corrupt. See these pages for help:

Troubleshooting Basics

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
base OS files. If running the Apple combo does not fix, then you might need
to do an "Archive & Install".

I fixed it!! So stupid of me....there were thousands of deleted messages, but I had checked off show FLAGGED deleted messages only. Since there were no flagged, it showed it as empty!! Oh my god, silly silly me. It's crazy, you really know this program. I'm jealous. I use my email all day every day, but I bet if I knew the program better I could be much more organized, etc. etc. It's just about sitting down and learning it. Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated. Robert

Glad the problem is fixed.

Take it in small steps. The Entourage Help Blog is a good place to start.
Besides getting the latest news and help with updates, we post articles to
help learn Entourage. The Entourage Help Page is also a good place to find
stuff.

It's easy to overlook features. I just learned a new trick in the Finder the
other day. If you are in Finder, you can take your hand off the mouse and
just type the first letter of the filename to have it selected and then
press Return/Enter to open the filename for editing. (you need to have the
folder selected that you want.)

Saves mousing over to select. For me this is huge. My disability really
makes mousing painful at times so this is one less thing I will have to do
with my mouse.

I don't recall if I learned that in OS 9, or OS 7 or 8. So, if you didn't
know that, then maybe there's hope for me with this rules stuff? ;)

Oh...I didn't know you had a disability. I hope it's not too much of a
hindrance.

I know when I'm testing new software, features that should be right in my
face, I just don't see until someone points it out.

One nice thing about communicating via email, is everyone is on the same
footing. We all look and sound the same. It's nice not being seen as
disabled, but yes it is very limiting. I have autoimmune problems that
severely limit any physical activity. I have fingers that don't bend and I
can't make a fist with either hand now. If it weren't for applications that
correct my spelling I would be in deep trouble.
