I imported my Now-up-to-date calendar into Entourage 2004 on MAC.

The Office notifications still beep as they should--but the window to
display what the beep is about--does not show up.

In addition, the Office Notification icon in the DOCK shows 7604 items.

How do I fix this?

If the problem is that I have too many reminders-- how to I get rid of them
if I can't see the office notification window to do a DISMIS-ALL?????

Thanks for any help.

It's probably off screen. You can change the resolution on your monitor and
that will probably help show you the Notifications window. Choose something
like 1600 x 1000. Drag the window to the center of your screen. Reset and
you should now be able to see the window and place it where you want it. If
it resets offscreen, then it's a corrupted preference.
In addition, the Office Notification icon in the DOCK shows 7604 items.

How do I fix this?

You can select to Dismiss All from Notifications.

Diane,

I did reset the screen resolution and also connected an additional external
monitor-- still can't see the Office Notification.

You suggested that the preferences may be corrupted-- so if that is it-- how
do I fix that?

Thanks for your help!!!

That is strange.

Let's test first in a new User. Go to System Preferences and create a new
User. Switch Users and open Entourage. Now try to open Notifications. Do you
see Notifications? If you don't then we need to look at your Office install.
I would use "Remove Office" and re-install from the CD and update.

If you can see it, try deleting this preference in your regular User's
folder:

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist

I fixed it.--well maybe it wasn't broken----READ ON

I replaced my MAIN IDENTIFY folder with a backup copy.

The backup copy was taken before I imported the large Now-Up-To-Date data
(luckily).

I think the reason the notification window did not show up before is that I
did not wait long enough for 7607 items to be processed...BUT ...that can be
a very long time.

I had 3 items in my old backup DB and it took about a minute for the window
to show up.. First I heard the sound notification, then a little later the
window showed up- but empty, then the notification info filled in.

So it took about a minute for the 3 reminder items to show up as a reminder
window.

For 7607 items I think we are talking about 7607/3 minutes= or 42
hours!!!!!!

Maybe my calculation is off a bit--- but waiting 42 hours for a large number
of notifications to be processed might make you miss some appointments that
happen before the 42 hours is complete.

Anyway-- that is my theory-- I did not wait 42 hours so I can't confirm the
theory.

I thought you all would like to know what I found.

BTW-- you have to put the current main identify folder into the trash first
and then copy the back up. It won't let you replace since it says the folder
contents are in use (some hidden application I guess).

Thanks for all your help.

Dick, thanks for report. I'll add this to User's Experiences Page.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/user_exp.html>

If you ever have the time to let this run, go into a new User and import
your data there into a new Identity. I'm not sure how we'll know the exact
time it takes, but would be nice to know if it eventually works.

For users following this thread some background on User/Identity....

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings. A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity
and User are often confused. Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and
the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder.
