after install CD drive not working

I am auditioning a PocketPC (PDA) from a friend. It came
with a CD that has Outlook 2002, and recommended
installation in order to synch properly with my PC. So I
installed.

A few days later I did some updating of my MS Office
software, downloading/installing service packs from the MS
site. The second pack I installed ask for my Outlook 2002
CD. Well, the only CD I have is the Toshiba PDA CD that
has Outlook on it. So I put that in the drive. Computer
freezes, have to hard boot. Same thing a second time. Now
the drive cannot read CDs (even music CDs).

Anyone out there who can help? Thanks!
