After installation of Office 2007 I can't open .doc's

I recently unistalled a trial version of office 2007 and installed office
ultimate 2007. After doing so, I am unable to open documents with the .doc
file extension. The small window use to say: Open, save, cancel. Now the
window says: Find, save, cancel. What is going on here? This is very
frustrating. One suggestion was for me to get a registry cleaner but, I
already have one! Anyone know what I should do?

'allready have a registry cleaner'
Well that could cause all sorts of problems, if you have run it and dont
know exactly what you are doing, but then if you did you could simply have
used regedit

The little window that pops up when clicking on a document link i.e. a word
document. The problem is that my com is not recognizing that it is a word
doc even though the word logo is on it. I had a similar problem when adobe
disappeared from my com. and had to re-install it.

You may just need to fix your file associations for *.DOC. Or is the problem
with files using extension *.DOCX?

http://www.pcmech.com/article/how-to-repair-or-change-file-associations/
explains how for Windows XP. Which operating system are you using?

Because whoever recommended it is making money from it?
Because they don't know any better?
Because they used one once and they had no side effects?

it's just with the *.DOC not *.DOCX. I did set something that said "always
open this type of document with this application", but that still didn't
change anything. How do I fix the association?

Did you click the link I posted and read the information there? I can't give
you anything better without knowing your operating system...which is why I
asked about it in the first place.

Sketchy information is one reason you get pointed to registry cleaners and
stuff like that.

Also, when you google Repair File Association, one of the first-ish hits is
to a registry tool of some sort.

Sorry, Windows XP Home ed. I did go to the link and followed all the
directions but, the extensions were already associated to MS Word. I
re-applied the setting and still got the same effect. I am an online college
student and our material is in the form of a document link i.e.
material_appenix_b.doc What you suggest?

Should I remove the CCleaner from my com. I am scared to go into regedit
like DL suggested. I don't know how to fix .dll problems and things like
that so what am I to do. Ah I am a poor example of a computer intellect.

I don't know what CCleaner is, but I'd probably leave it alone at this point
unless it's running in the background and continually cleaning something
(your registry, I assume). If it's a utility where you have to specifically
invoke a cleaning procedure, then just leave it alone. You can uninstall it
sometime in future if you want.

As for your file association issue, it sounds like an issue of opening files
directly from a web link. I'm guessing it's related to your browser, but
maybe also to the download server, I don't know. We do see this issue fairly
often with PPTX files -- the server makes them into zipped files because it
doesn't know how to treat PPTX files (it's got to do with defining the MIME
type). But that's a 2007 format file, and you're saying you're dealing with
DOC files. Those shouldn't be an issue (of this sort) after all this time.

Oh, seems it could be related to your antivirus, too.
http://groups.google.com/group/google-mail-problem-solving-uk/browse_thread/thread/b7d7724622dfe036

Where are you clicking this link, anyway?

And what exactly does the message box say (besides "find / save / cancel")?

You have a Save button. (The Find button seems a bit odd, actually.) Why not
just save the file to your harddrive and then open it from Word using Office
Button | Open?
