After latest update can't send emails

A

Andy Claxton

I downloaded and installed the latest recommended upates for Office XP
(version 2002) yesterday. Now I can't sent emails - I get a message "unable
to connect to the network". Yet I can send and receive "Test" messages from
within Outlook's email setup, and I receive incoming emails.

Grateful for any advice as to how I can resolve the problem.

Remove and readd your mail account and ensure that the authentication
settings are correct. Can you ping your mail server by name?

I have deleted and re-entered the mail accounts yet am still unable to send
emails (but can still receive). The 'Test' email function still sends and
receives.

I have pinged the SMTP servers by name and that works.

Any other solutions? Failing that can I uninstall the latest 'updates'
until MS sort out the problems?

I fail to understand why I can post messages to the Newsgroups via Outlook
Express but not send emails by Outlook.

Do you have Norton or McAfee or any other AV scanning incoming and/or
outgoing messages? Try turning it off and see if your send/receive works
again.

You might want to delete your .srs file (use Windows search and enable
searching hidden/system files) to recreate your send/receive settings.

I turned off the AV software - 'send' still unable to send but receive still
works.

Deleted the .srs file - still unable to send but receive still works.

Same response "unable to connect to the network". And the 'Enter Network
Password' glitch is present.

Can I safely remove the latest updates? Or do I need to reinstall?

Hi - Having the same issue, but rebooted to see if
settings installed required it but didn't ask. OS comes
up blank after TaDa. Reboot again, OS appears to be fully
loaded, but 70% of desktop icons are missing, and several
apps hang/lock-up. Several more attemts and in Safe-mode
to recover whatever is possible. Re-install over old OS-
hangs/locks-up at reboot. Install to new directory is all
that worked. Now I have some catching up to do...
Anybody else see this?

Thanks.
