Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel It looks like documents lost their formatting.
In QuickView mode they are looking good.
Initially the problem was with Pages and Microsoft Word.

I've downloaded combo 10.6.2 update and installed it again manually (first time I've installed it with Updater). It solved the problem with Pages but not with Word.

I've repaired permissions and restarted Mac. Nothing's happend. Word documents are looking deformed still.

I've updated Word to latest 12.2.3 version. The problem is still persists.

Close all documents and use File>Open from the Microsoft Word menu.

Make SURE that ³Enable² in that dialog is set to ³All Readable Docuents² or
³Word Documents².

When you get a read failure, for whatever reason, Word will attempt to read
the file using the ³Recover text from any file² converter. Once it switches
to that converter, it cannot automatically switch back (it¹s a design bug).
The problem is that the ³Recover text...² converter does not interpret the
metadata, so there is nothing to tell it to switch BACK.

Once you change it so that one document opens as a Word document, it will be
OK from there.

Cheers

Thanks!

But what kind of failure during opening file should I get? There was no failure before and there is no failure now. The .docx document is opening OK but when it is opened it look like jammed paper :)

May I can attach or send you screenshot to show the problem?

Hi Alexey:

It's not a good idea to attach *anything* in here. I, and most others, will
never see any post that contains an attachment.

The problem you describe is not "Recover text", but I do not remember what
the cause is... Check that the document's compatibility options are set to
"Word 2008 Recommended". This is a per-document setting.

Particularly, check that "Don't use HTML paragraph autospacing" is turned
OFF.

Make sure your system is FULLY up to date, I seem to remember this had
something to do with the early drivers for the graphics cards. Similarly, a
bad printer driver can do this: make sure the driver for your printer is
correct and is the latest one (Word gets its measurements from the printer
driver).
