After migrating form XP to Vista, I'm unable to fully connect projectprof to server 2007 SP1

Reinoud

Hi there,

I have a 2 server farm installation of project server 2007 SP1 on a
Win2003Ent server. Which is working fine when using proj prof 2007 in
WinXP, we are currently in the middle of a project in which the
desktop OS is migrated to WinVista.

After a desktop is migrated to Vista, I am confronted with the
following:
* I am able to creat a project server account in prof, after
restarting Project the status bar states "Connected".
* In Project, the "open"-command results in a browse window for local
projects in stead of project server projects.
* In Project, I am able to open and add enterprise resources.
* In PWA in the projectcenter when selecting a project and clicking
the "Edit" button results in the error: " Microsoft Office Project
Professional 2007 is required for this action. Ensure that your copy
of Project Professional 2007 can connect to this server. If both of
these conditions are true and you still get this message, contact your
system administrator for assistence ".

So project is connected to project server, however this connection is
somehow not fully implemented.

Can any of you help me discover which (security) settings maybe
incorrect.

Thanx in advance

Reinoud

This error doesn't have anything to do with the connection to Project
Server -- this error is typically the result of a registry or component
registration issue. It could also be due to some new funky Vista
security whatnot <g>.

I would try two things to start:
1) Add the Project Server URL to your Trusted Sites
2) Perform a Repair of Project Professional from Add/Remove programs.

Been there and done that, both in connecting to the server and in
getting the ActiveX download to work. First of all, although my
computer was re-imaged to Vista in late April, the April 8 Windows
Updates release didn't apply itself. Once I applied those updates,
most of my connection issues were cleared. There is a hotfix in that
update for IE and I think that took care of some of it. For the
Active X issue, what I finally had to do go into IE Security and after
playing around with a lot of settings that normally worked, I wound up
just turning everything to Enable or Prompt. Then I got the new
ActiveX components and reset IE Security to the default settings for
Medium.

Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, add to trusted sites and reinstallation of Project prof
did not do the trick, anyone got another suggestion?

Maybe something simple like:
Make sure that the account set up in Project Professional uses the
_exact_ same URL as what the user is using to access PWA. If one is
http://server/projectserver and the other is https://server/projectserver
or any other mis match, you will get this error. For some users is a
sporadic error, because they may use different shortcuts or type in
the PW URL sometimes, so it may be slightly different from time to
time.

Another common differences include: http://servername.domain.com/projectserver
instead of http://servername/projectserver

account setup is good, since I can enter the project center from proj
prof, I can also build a team from enterprise resources.

I just keep running into the fact that I can't open enterprise
projects by using the open command (nor the edit command in web
access...)

Problem is solved, it appeared to be an installation related to
security policies.

Thanx for the responses!
