After OSX 10.4.8 Upgrade, Entourage won't start

I have searched all over and can't seem to find anyone with the same
problem I am having...

Last night I upgrade my Intel Mac to 10.4.8 and then Entourage won't
open- I click on it and the Mail screen briefly comes up before "The
application Entourage quit unexpectedly" comes up.

I do some searching around and I am like oh it must be because I need
to upgrade office to the 11.3.0 so I go to the website and download it
for Office 2004 which is what I have and when I try to run the update
the same thing happens: "The Application Office 2004 update blah blah
blah quit unexpectedly." So I try to update instead using Microsoft
Autoupdate and it downloads the file, asks me for my password, etc...
but then nothing happens- no update, no error message, just nothing at
all. The Autoupdate window closes and thats about it.

I am at a loss at this point. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Please don't say reinstall Office because I don't have the disks
anymore but my version is definately legal!

Thanks.

Well, I'm at a loss too, I am afraid.

The only thing I can suggest you try is to Repair Permissions on the hard
disk. I have very little hope that that will improve anything.

If that doesn't work, I am afraid you are going to have to get those disks
back, then do a Remove Office (using the tool...) then re-install. Don't
try to drag the folder to the trash to remove, you'll make your problem
worse.

Cheers

UPDATE:

First, thanks so much to everyone who has chimed in with their ideas. I
have tried each idea but nothing has worked yet. I have been posting my
problem on a few different threads to get the most ideas possible. The
link that Diane Ross suggested sounded very promising but unfortunately
the process described there didn't work. I am in the process of
downloading the update manually but its a big file so we will have to
try that later tonight. I also have repaired permissions many times,
doesn't seem to change things. I discovered today that the starting up
problem is not just Entourage, some of my 3rd party software won't
launch now either. So basically 10.4.8 is really screwing up some of my
software or some of my software is screwing up 10.4.8. Also, Photoshop
won't save now without crashing. Someone from another board suggested
that I delete any software that might have altered the OS. I didn't
really have any of this but I deleted everything I had that was like
"freeware" or otherwise potentially sketchy anyways. No luck. I will
let you all know if the re-installing of 10.4.8 worked later after it
downloads. For now, any other ideas?

Do an Archive and Install of the OS.

<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120>

"Archive and Install" moves existing system files to a folder named Previous
System and then installs Mac OS X again.

Just be sure to check Preserve Users and Network Settings when you select
Archive & Install.
