After SP1, Outlook 2007 crashes when connecting to Exchange Server

I

Iccuwagn

I installed and configured Outlook 2007 (on a machine running Windows XP Pro
SP2) to connect to our work Exchange Server over a VPN connection. This
functioned flawlessly until installing Service Pack 1 for Office 2007. After
installing SP1, all other components of Office appear to be functioning
properly, but Outlook would crash whenever I tried to open it. After
crashing, Outlook would offer to open in safe mode the next time I tried to
run it, again crashing. Then it offered to detect and repair, with no
results. I deleted relevant files such as extend.dat, outcmd.dat,
frmcache.dat which with no results. Next I deleted my mail profile from
Control Panel and tried to recreate it. When I tried to verify my Exchange
user account, the Mail applet crashed with the following error dialog box:

Run a DLL as an App

Error signature

AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: olmapi32.dll
ModVer: 12.0.6211.1000 Offset: 00033e1e

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook with the same results. After a
little more testing, I realized that I could connect to a Hotmail account
without crashing. Now I am out of ideas for the time being. Anyone know what
SP1 for Office (or somehow, I) did to my computer and.or how to fix it?

I've deployed Office 2007 SP1 to 40 HP PCs and 1 of them is showing exactly
this error and I too have followed all the recommended steps!

I have the exact same issue. No exchange server connectivity after
SP1. Reinstall doesnt help, diags come up empty. Creating a new
outlook profile crashed the setup and I get the following debug
message popup:

Debug Assertion Failed!

Program: C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe
File: c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\xtree
Line:293

Exrpression: map/set iterators incompatible

For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure,
see the visual C++ documentation on asserts.

are you using a firewall? some firewalls will block outlook after updates
are installed because the version # changes and they only allow apps by
version #.

I turned the firewall off and had the same results. And yes, i ran

using OWA to work right now and its very frustrating.

Anyone find any resolution to this yet? I've been troubleshooting for
the last 48 hours straight just about. Its really weird, i dont even
see any RPC or MAPI traffic over the wire when looking at Wireshark.
This is Vista with Outlook 2007 SP1. I actually even uninstalled
Office and SP1, reinstalled just Office and still the same issue. I
then reinstalled SP1 and still no go. On my XP box on the same home
network I have no problems connecting to the Exchange Server. It makes
me more suspicious of Vista than of Outlook 2007 or the SP1 update. I
have completely disabled all firewalls. I have also done a sfc/
scannow.

Tried this too with no luck:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913843/en-us

In Wireshark when I first start Outlook I see the DNS query for the
Exchange Server and I see the response come back correctly then
nothing else at all. Just zero traffic on the wire. (I shut down as
many services generating network traffic as possible and filtered for
noise)

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem with Vista and Outlook 2007 after installing
Office 2007 SP 1. I can no longer connect to Exchange. However when setting
up a new profile, there was a connection to verify my user name. At some
level there is some filtering going on. I reinstalled Outlook 2007 in hopes
of removing the changes of Office 2007 SP 1, no luck. I also uninstalled
Office 2007 and reinstalled with no luck.
My OS is Vista Home Premium running on an Acer 9410 laptop, running Office
2007 Ultimate, attempting to connect to Exchange 2007.

Problem solved.

After 2 months of scouring the internet, I came across a user on another
site with a similar problem that actually had a solution. That solution,
which worked for me as well, was to enable all the network cards in their
machine. For some (insane) reason, SP1 for Office appears to kill Exchange
connectivity if you have disabled NICs on your computer.

Hopefully, this helps some other people.
