After SP2 -- Word gives Assertion Failed!

Sandy

After I installed Office 2003 SP2 update, every time I start Word (not other
office products) I get a C++ error dialog that says "ASSERTIONS FAILED!" The
error says the program is . . . WINWORD.EXE and the file is .\scoring.cpp.
It gives me the options to Abort, Retry, or Ignore. Abort closes Word after
an Assertion Failed in another cpp file. Retry gives an error message, click
OK and Word finishes loading and Ignore goes right into Word with no apparent
problems. I've tried disabling all the add-ins, startups, and macros I can
find. Any help appreciated.

I am writing to update this problem in case anyone uses Spellex medical
dictionaries. This problem appears to be related to the Spellex medical
dictionary. If you change the dictionary setting from COMPLETE to NORMAL in
the TOOLS>OPTIONS>SPELLING AND GRAMMAR section of Word 2003, the problem goes
away. (Of course you don't get the advantages of the medical dictionary when
you do this.) I've written to Spellex and will report what they say.

Contact Spellex customer service. They know of the problem and have an
interim fix they can send you while they're working on it.
