Agency Style Management (custom vs native)

Our agency is attempting to streamline the way we work with Word
templates/documents (v2000) making the process more accessible and
user-friendly. Recently, there has been a request to use native
styles.
Currently we are using custom styles (over 75 of them) in order to
standardize over 100 templates. These styles live inside each user's
normal.dot. By using Word's native styles, drastically reducing the
amount of styles, we are unclear of the results and possible
repercussions.
Is it ideal to put the agency's styles in the Normal.dot or create a
separate networked global template (i.e. Agency.dot)? Perhaps
‘Agency.dot' could hold all of the current custom styles and user
environment changes (toolbars, etc.) are in the normal.dot. Would
this allow for archived documents using the current custom styles to
open correctly in the new setup?
Note: We at this time have no plans to use a third party application
such as WordTricks or Softwise.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Best,

Matt
