AIM IMAP problem

1 - "The IMAP store could not be created. The operation failed. An
object could not be found."

2 - "The IMAP store could not be propertly updated. You may want to
restart Outlook before proceeding."

I had AIM email working well in Outlook 2003. I installed Office 2007,
but it was soooo slow that I uninstalled, and reinstalled Office 2003.

All of my email accounts were present in Outlook, but the AIM account
kept giving message number 2, above. I removed the account and set it
up again, and got messages 1 & 2.

Also, there was a .pst file in the Outlook data file, but it no longer
exists.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Try creating a new profile and add the IMAP account to it.
Is the pst physically no longer on your system or is it just no longer
showing up in Outlook?
When was Outlook 2007 slow for you?

Correction:

Should be:
....there was an apparent AIM mail related .pst file in the Outlook data
folder...

That AIM-related .pst file isn't there at all. It was in the data
folder with Outlook.pst.

Outlook 2007 was slow from time it would open and in performance of any
task. It closed slow too! I was running it on a 1.4 mHz celeron
notebook, so maybe that's the problem.

Was outlook 2007 running alone or did you have other programs open? How
big is your IMAP PST or any other PST?

Usually other programs were open, such as instant messengers. But that
has always been the case.

The Outlook.pst file is approximately 2 GB. I guess that's pretty
huge, but it didn't slow down 2003.

By the way, I set up another profile, but having problems with that
too. I went into Mail from Control Panel. In Show Profiles I clicked
Add... and typed in a new name. The following dialogue popped up:
There was an error locating one of the items to complete this
operation. It might have been deleted." I clicked OK, and there is no
new profile showing. Click OK again to close Mail. Open Mail again,
click Show Profiles... and the profile is there. Click Properties for
the new profile, Data Files, Add, and in Types of Storage there is
nothing.

Closed all that out to Mail Setup and clicked Email Accounts. Add New.
IMAP. Set up the AIM IMAP mail account. Closed out the Control Panel
Mail setup.

Tried to open Outlook using the new profile and get the following
dialogue: "Unable to open your default e-mail folders. Outlook could
not start because a data file to send and receive email could not be
found. To add a data file..." etc.

Been going in circles for several hours with this.

Which Outlook version are you at now?
Yeah, the 2 GB PST sounds like a killer for 2007. Performance isn't just
there yet. I am having some major issues on my laptop with 1 GB RAM and
two PSTs (each around 1.3 GB).

Yea, but is it an IMAP-connected PST? That's what this thread seems to be
about. Does Outlook 2007 still make an IMAP PST an ANSI PST?

Okay, I'm having a similar problem with AIM and IMAPs.

I recently swtiched from AOL mail to AIM mail. Previously, I was able
to use Outlook 2003 as a mail client for my three AOL.COM addresses --
IMAP server was imap.aol.com.

However, I discontinued use of the paid AOL service and my e-mails were
rolled over to free AIM addresses, using the imap.aim.com server.

Outlook easily made the transition for two of the three new AIM
addresses, but no matter what I do for the third, Outlook will not
recognize the e-mail address, its imap server nor create its folders.
The address itself is functioning fine -- I can get to it through AIM
web mail -- but Outlook just WON'T pick it up.

Any ideas?
