Alerts Problem

I am having a problem with sending alerts when tasks were assigned. In the
application log I get a relay denied. All the users have pop3 accounts and I
configured MS Project to send email through the ISP's Smtp server. When users
publish a task they don't receive the alert. I talked with the isp and we
enabled reverse dns lookup, created pointers to the outside ip ad still I am
unable to send alerts. Has anyone had success sending alerts using pop3
accounts.

The end-user access protocol has nothing to do with this. It's all about
whether or not your email is getting passed on by the relaying SMTP server.
Keep in mind that ISPs have other rules that affect email relay through
their servers, such as the email must contain a valid from address in the
same domain. You also need to consider port restrictions on your network.
