Aligning Pictures

When I insert pictures into PowerPoint presentations (PP XP/2002 & 2003),
they always end up all over the place.

Is there any way I can get them to 'snap' to a pre-defined maximum frame
size (whilst retaining their aspect ratio)?

Similarly, is there a way to insert them this way?

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

Meantime, is there a way to easily centre images in PowerPoint - i.e. at
least move them to the center of the slide?

Oh, and one other thing, is there any way to set the 'Insert picture from
file' dialogue box so that it starts browsing in, say, one's My Pictures
folder?

On the centering problem, no easy way. You can take advantage of the grid
and guides, if you set snap to grid you can easily drag the picture to the
middle of the slide, the guides and grid are magnetic, so if you move the
picture to the middle it should snap to where you want it to be. Other than
that you can use the distribute and align feature on the drawing toolbar,
drag the menu to your slide using the tear-off line at the top, click on
Relative to Slide. Then use distribute Horizontally and Vertically.
Third possibility is to use the slide layout Object in the task pane, it's
next to the blank slide layout. Select the placeholder and distribute it in
the middle vertically. Duplicate the slide x-times and then click on the
insert picture icon inside the placeholder, browse to your picture and
insert it. Should be dead center.
I know, nothing automatic about all these suggestions, but maybe someone
else will have better ideas.

The free PPTools StarterSet add-in lets you do this all (and size the
picture) in one click.

I must be dense as I haven't yet found the way to do this with one click. My
image just stays wherever I've put it, no matter what I click on the add-ins
toolbar. Obviously must be doing something wrong...?

Tried Plan C to solve this - the registry solution. However found that the
"My Pictures" string already existed and was set to the correct folder.
However, Insert Picture from File still starts in the middle of the Clip Art
area - and returns there every single time one uses it!

Perhaps this fix doesn't work with PowerPoint XP/2002 used on Vista?
