I have like information from 2 years and need to compare sales from 2008 and 2009. There are like item codes as well as different item codes between the 2 years. So there could be a code in 2008 with no sales in 2009 and vice versa.

Right now, my sheet looks like:
Item Code 2009 Sales Item Code 2008 Sales

I would like for it to look like:
Item Code 2009 Sales 2008 Sales
AB 100 234
AC 23
AD 345

Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you in advance!

If I understand correctly, on your current sheet you could have on the same
row different codes for 2008 and 2009, right?

This method could be long if you have a lot of data.

Select all data (not the headers) in the two columns for 2008.
With the Hand tool bring the selected range all the way down one row below
the last row for the 2009 data, keeping it in the same column it was.
(Alternatively if you're not proficient with the Hand tool, Cut; select the
first cell one row below and one column right of the last entry for 2009;
and Paste.)
Reselect the first column of data (the Item codes) from the just-moved data
for 2008, and drag it left with the hand tool to the first column under the
2009 Item codes (or Cut, select and Paste as above).

Delete the now-empty third column.

Now select all three columns of data and sort by the first column. If items
repeated in 2008 and 2009 they will be located on adjacent rows. All you
have to do now is comb through all lines and when item codes repeat, copy
the 2008 sales on the line of the 2009 sales (or move with the hand tool),
and delete the line of the 2008 sales.
