Aligning two objects - which is stationary?

Tim

When aligning two selected graphics objects, e.g. using
align right or align left, it appears to choose which
object will remain stationary while the other object moves
to align with the stationary object. How do I override
this choice? I'd like to specifially keep one object of my
choice stationary while the other object gets aligned to
it.

Hi Tim,

When aligning two objects left, the left most one at
start will be the stationery one, if aligning right
the right most one at start is the alignment point.

And if you're centering, it seems to center on the one you select first.

Hi Suzanne,

Hmmmm. Perhaps its situational depending on settings or
distance to travel for an object to be aligned.

If you open a new document, create a square autoshape,
ctrl+D to dupe it twice then place those randomly on the page
do you still see center based on choice sequence of the object
rather than on 'closest to center'?

In some apps if you select say 5 form items, so as to align
their left edges, the first one selected does become the 'anchor'
or 'pindown' point for the others.

Since I do this more often in Publisher than in Word, that may be what I'm
thinking of.
