All apps display generic icons

Recently my PC is displaying all Office 2000 applications with generic
icons. All file associations as well (.doc, .xls, etc.) When this first
occurred a re-start would fix it but no longer. If I go into properties,
change icon button is not available. It is interesting to note that Outlook
icon is generic while Outlook Express is OK.

Any help would be most appreciated. I have not re-installed as yet and would
prefer not, but if that is the only fix, I guess I will bite the bullet.

Thanks in advance,
Tommy T.

I've seen two things do this.

One can be fixed by doing a screen refresh (F5 key). The
other is a virus. Make sure you have the latest virus
scanner and scan your entire hard drive.
