All Assignments does not show all assignments

Recently, we have had several strange instances where users appear to
be missing hours in the Resource Assignments view. Upon closer
examination we found that they weren't missing, just not being
displayed.

The resource's actual work shows in the Portfolio Analyzer just fine,
and as long as the user has not hidden the task they appear in the
timesheet. But the Resource Assignments view is not getting all the
resource's assignments when "All Assignments" is selected. We dug down
into the view to the task level and found that the "All Assignments"
view was only showing a few recent assignments instead of all the
resource's assignments. This made it appear that the resource had not
logged time, even though it is in the resource's timesheet and in the
Analyzer.

The solution thus far has been to republish the assignments. This has
pushed the hours back into the Resource Assignments view, but this
isn't a solution to the problem. Has anyone else encountered this? How
can we keep this from recurring?

Just a follow-up, we are using Project Server 2003 on SQL Server 2000
with the latest Service Packs applied. We think it might be related to
hiding tasks, but in theory these functions should not be related.
We're still looking for a root cause, but have not found one thus
far.
