All Contacts and Address Book gone

I have just reinstalled Outlook 2000 on XP for the millionth time and now all my contacts are gone. In my address book is a little miniature icon that say 'contacts' but doesn't open. If I right-click contacts in the Outlook address tab the 'show this folder as an email address book is greyed out. I've lost 4 years of contacts.

Don't worry about the Address Book view; the Outlook Address Book is really
just another view of the contents of your Contacts folder. Is the rest of
your data still there? Can you access the Contacts folder in the Folder
List, and if so, are all the contacts still there?

No, all the contacts are gone from the contacts folder. There's a little contacts icon in the field in address book, but it doesn't open. Also, the Outlook Address Book tab is greyed out in properties under contacts.

Well, if the contacts aren't in Contacts, there's no way anything is going
to show up in the Address Book. Are you using a .PST file? Is all the
other data still there -- mail, appointments, etc.?
