ALL DATA GONE after advanced rebuild

Version: Older version
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I have an (too large, I know) Entourage data base, that was still acting up after a normal rebuild.

I proceeded with an advanced rebuild, which BTW, I have only done once before without problem.

Upon completion Entourage opens as if I were a new user. ALL data including contacts, emails, calendars, signatures, etc. are gone!

There is no other identity to which I can switch.

I tried moving the "old DB" into the "Main Identity" folder but, to no avail.

The folder shows 1.39 GB, but I can't seem retrieve the data.

This is a DISASTER!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Teknomad

MS Office 2000

There is no Office 2000.
Entourage version: 10.0.0
MS Database Daemon 10.0.0

This indicates you have Office X. In your application folder, unless you
renamed it, you will see Microsoft Office X if you have Entourage 10
installed. Also check this file:

"/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin"

Do a Get Info. What version does it say? If it's 10.0.0 then you have Office
X and Entourage X.

You need to update. The updated version might be able to salvage your data.
10.1.9

Before you do anything, you need to make a backup of your original Identity.

After a rebuild old files are renamed.

Entourage X: "Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"
Entourage 2001: "Old Database Cache", "Old Database", and "Old Messages." In
addition, Database (Rebuild) Cache is retained.

You can rename them to recreate the original Identity. Work from a backup!!
You can easily get them all confused and never have a chance to rebuild.

As a consultant, I do recovery of Entourage Identities. Let me know if you
are unsuccessful and want me to try and recover.

Lastly, I advise you to recover your data and move to Office 2008. If you
don't need Exchange you can get Office 2008 very reasonably. $129.99

Thanks, Diane.

Let me digest this and get back to you.

I had several "Old Data Base" files in the trash. I'll have to do some picking around to see which one is "the" one just before I did the "advanced rebuild."

The other little problem is that I don't have a working optical drive on this (new) MacBook. So I can't burn a DVD. The MB will recognize an external drive, so I can back up to that.

Thanks again.

Hi Debbie:

Well, I have backed up my folders, downloaded the Entourage 10.1.9 update, installed and "rebuilt" the data base.

Unfortunately, I get the same thing. The DB file folder shows 1.39 GB, however, when Entourage opens absolutely NOTHING is there. It welcomes me as if it were a new set up.

Clearly, I now need to move toward a data recovery program.

Are you familiar with "Stellar Phoenix Macintosh": <http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/detail-features.php> ?

I used to use Symantec, but, that was a long time ago. It saved my bacon once just before a business trip abroad when my whole system "disappeared." I merely used the "restore" function to an hour earlier and went happily to my meeting.

Ideally, I would like another program that can restore my system to just before I did the "advanced rebuild," Since I have done nothing on the system since them except download the Entourage update and rebuild.

Do you have any suggestions? I am really desperate. This is a business computer. While I can restore from an old back-up, I would still lose many e-mails, contacts, etc. if I did that.

I have the new Leopard OS but, have not installed it yet primarily because I was waiting for MS Office and a few other programs to work with it.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Tek
