All data gone, and then 'First Run'

I'm running OSX (10.5.6),
my Entourage came with Office 2004, and
the e-mail client is pop.

It's been about a month since I started using this Entourage on my MacBook.
Installation went pretty well, imported address book, started up alright.
Yesterday, when I started up Entourage like always, 'First Run' activated as
if it was my first time!
I re-booted my Mac, and tried to start up again.
The outcome is the same. It doesn't seem to remember that I was using it
for about a month. All data are gone. Folders are empty and clean (if I am
looking into the right one!).

Now I've given up and redone the 'First Run' thing all over again. As you
can see, I am back online, but I really do wonder what happened. And if
possible, I would like to retrieve the mails I had received until the
incident. Can anyone comment on what may have happened (or what I might
have done)?

Normally, when your data goes missing it$B!G(Bs user error however, other things
can cause it to disappear.
