I have Microsoft Entourage x for Mac, Version 10.0.0 (1309) I am running MAC OS X, Version 10.4.11 on a 1.67 GHz Power Pc G4. When I opened Entourage to check my mail, it came up like a new program with the "Welcome" message. After reading similar questions in the Forum, I searched for the MUD folder and could not find it. PLEASE HELP! Years of info is now missing and the only way I can retrieve my mail presently is to go online to Optonline.net. If the database is rebuilt will it permanently delete any files that may be "hidden" somewhere. Where do I start looking? Could an auto Safari update mess up my Entourage data? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Not only are you using old software that is "end of life" you have not even
upgraded it. If I remember correctly there was a warning that was added when
you reached the limit of 4GB in one of the updates. Most likely you have
exceeded that limit and upgrading now will not help other than to give you
the warning.

Other than checking the size of your database to be sure it actually
contains the data and your "real" database is not "lost", you are probably
out of luck. If somehow it has been moved by you or the Finder, you might be
able to reclaim your data.

Examples of a blank database, don't have Entourage X data but it would be
around these sizes.
2004 --> 18.1 KB
2008 --> 22.6 MB

I had the same thing happen. When you talk to Mac specialists they say
it is because you are using entourage - not a Mac product, so it is
not Mac's fault. I have nowhere found anybody who could remedy the
problem, after months of search, complaint, moaning to all and sundry.
You have to make up your mind whether it is Mac or Microsoft at fault.
In any case neither Mac nor Microsoft has intervened to post an answer
to the issue on this site. I just started all over again. Then the
same thing happened when the next update arrived. M;y wife now refuses
updates on her Mac. I no longer use the entourage address file, but
the address book in _Mac. I am thinking of reverting to a PC, but it
may not be Mac's fault. THE PROBLEM FOR MAC IS THAT If people are like
me Mac's reputation will suffer. BECAUSE WE CAN'T ALL BE MAC EXPERTS.
WE WANT TO USE A COMPUTER, NOT BECOME A PROGRAMMER, A FIXER OR A
SPECIALIST. AND WHEN I ASK MY HELP DESK AT WORK, THEY SAY. WHY DID YU
CHANGE TO MAC? WE CAN'T HELP.

SORRY I CAN'T HELP MORE. YOU HAVE A PHILOSOPHICAL DECISION TO TAKE.
IT'S A BORE ISN'T IT!

You need to take some small steps to learn some basics. Macs are easy, but
like most things, you can make a huge mess if you don't know what you are
doing. :)

I suggest checking out the "Mac OS X Hints Superguide, Leopard Edition" by
Rob Griffiths. His previous guide was excellent. When I made the transition
from Classic to OSX, I used his guide and quickly learned my way around.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new

David, are you in Switzerland? I see you have the same ISP as my son.
