All database files secured

Rick Cochran

Using Access 2000 on Windows 2000 SP4 I put user-level
security on ONE of my shared database files but now ALL of
my database files ask for the same ID and password - even
ones I try to create fresh from a blank database. If I
open one of the previously unsecured files at another
workststion the files open normally. I assume this is
caused by some configuration option at the original
workstation. Is there a way to remove security from the
other files but leave the one with it's security intact?

Thanx - Rick

You need to re-join the original workgroup security file so that
Access opens by default without any security. Then you need to
construct a special shortcut for the "secure" database so that its
session of Access opens using the secure workgroup file.

See the Microsoft security FAQ or my own document for additional
information. Links in the website in my signature.

Along the same lines as Jack was on, how are you starting Access? Are
you using a shortcut? If so it is likely that shortcut is setup to ask for
the password. That should not be a problem since it will still open
un-protected and protected files.
