all default menus in db window are missing

Yesterday I opened for review an old MS Access application someone created
which I think might have done something to how MS Access in general is
configured on my machine. I'm running MS Access 2003. When I open one of
my own MS Access mdb files to the db window, all of the menus are missing
(File, Tools, etc.). any idea what happened and how to get them back?

What happens when you just open Access (without an mdb)? If the menus are
there, then you might try opening your dbs while holding down the shift-key,
and checking options on the menu to make sure all your menus are checked.

With Access open, right click up near the toolbars. You should have at least
one toolbar checked. If not, check one and see what happens.

If that isn't enough, right click again and select Customize. Make sure
that Menu Bar is check in the Toolbars tab.

Still not working? Go back to Customize again and select the Command tab.
You should be able to add commands to the different catagories like File and
Edit. While there you might go to the Options tab and enable Always show full
menus.

If that doesn't work, try starting the database while holding down the Shift
button. This bypasses any code or macros that happen on startup.

OK this was the trick:

right click and select customize. menu bar was not in the list of toolbars
so I could not check it. it was gone....

select any toolbar from the list and click on properties. from the dropdown
list I was able to find menubar. evidently its property was set to not show
in the list of toolbars in the customize window. although all of its
properties appeared to be default, it would now show until I clicked on the
'restore defaults' button in the toolbar properties window.

now it's back. Boy, that app had some custom code that really messed up the
menubar, but fortunately, this got it back.
