Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I have recently experienced severe problems with entourage 2008 (danish version).

problem looks same both for calendar and for email. the views "inbox" " and also other personalized folders seem to be empty... but seaching, will show that information is indeed present.

same for "calendar" no oppointments / event are showing up in "calendar"-view. they used to :)

have rebuild datatbase but no improvement seen.

only hint of cause was that after adding RAM to the macpro, there was a window telling something about office 2008... maybe identity, I did not pay attention, just let it finish.

however after changing ram again (one seemed to be doa) problem repeated and the recently added info (email + event) was now "gone".

I am used to PC / outlook, and there its easy to generate own "views", seems different here.

will really like som advice.
Kind regards and happy easter

This sounds like database corruption. Let's do a stress test on your
database. I advise working off a copy of your Identity.

1) Under File --> Export, select "items to an Entourage archive" --> all
items.

If there is corruption this will fail. If it completes, go to step 3. If it
does fail, then do this:

2) Under File --> Export, select "items to an Entourage archive", but this
time select one item at a time. Do Mail then follow with Local contacts etc.

This will give you an idea of where the corruption is located. Regardless of
success, continue with step 3: export as MBOX files.

3) Download the "Archive Message Folders" script and use it to export as
MBOX files. The script will fail on a folder with corruption. You will need
to divide that folder into sections and drag the folders to the desktop
until you identify the corrupted message. Sometimes you can drag the
individual message to the desktop but often it will not import back into
Entourage, but you will have a copy. Delete the bad message(s).

Export folders as MBOX files using a script
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/export_mbox.html>

Once you get all your data out, you create a new Identity in Entourage and
import the data into the new Identity.

More details here:

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/manual_install.html>

Depending on where the corruption is located and how severe, there are other
methods to pry out and salvage the data. I recovery databases and it is a
very lengthy process, but with persistence you should be able to recover
your data.

Using Time Machine to backup Entourage basics:

It's advised by the developers not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage
database. If the database is copied while being used, the backup could be
corrupt. You can set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data
folder and create an iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so
you get one backup daily in Time Machine.

and_time_machine.html>

Entourage and Time Machine-like backup (creates chronological backup of
Identity can be used by both Tiger and Leopard)

More clarification has emerged!
First time after restart from cold MAC this small window came up:

MS OFFICE MAC
upgrading identities
and then two colored "progressbars"

After they completed, mails and calendar was back and up to date in Entourage.

but this upgrade only happens after start from OFF state, not from reboot.

this happened also when i changed RAM, but was not connected to that, i guess.

What causes this need to upgrading identity I dont know, but am happy now it works
kind regards
Palle
