All formatting has disappeared from old Word documents

This is very strange. My customer has opened some old Word documents to find
that all the formmatting has dissapeared!

and the following lengthy text appears at the bottom of the documents;

i believe that i have encountered the same problem. have you figured
out what the problem is? i noticed that on my computer, this only
seems to happen when saving to the 'My Documents' folder.
