All menus and toolbars have disapeared

I am not sure this is the proper group to ask but it is the nearest I found.

I have Office 2000 and in Word ALL my menus and toolbars have disapeared.
I cannot even click on the toolbar to get back the menus. There is nowhere
to click on.
Even Alt+letter doesn't work.
Can anyone please tell me how to get them back, or at least the ability to
select a toolbar...

Hi El,

Turn on the View=>Ruler setting to set the ruler to display
constantly in print layout view.

I did that but this one computer still has the ruler as a pop-up. I went into
tools, options, view to make sure the settings were the same as all the other
computers in the lab. Cant figure this one out.

Any more ideas?

Thanks, El

Hi

I edited the registry as in the article on this in the MVP site , first
toolbars then data. When I start Word it reconfigures but I still have no
menus or toolbars.

I renamed in both cases the data file entry is identical to the old value
and as far as I can see the toolbars is too (it is very long string)

Do you have any other suggestion? I have already repaired then deleted and
reloaded Office

I also have problems with MS office toolbar; it always hangs so I have
disabled it in start-up. And when I shut down windows I always get a msg
“Notification Wnd for RNAdmin†not responding. Sometime when I restart I get
a msg on the desktop saying it may be corrupt, I click the restore desktop
and it is OK. These problems were all apparent before my menus disappeared.

I have Office 2000 on Widows 98 second ed.

Try unchecking "provide feedback with animation" in Tools | Options,
General.

Start Word in Safe Mode and tell us if you have menus then and if it closed
correctly, etc.

From Start, Run type in

winword /a

and press enter. This starts Word bypassing all add-ins, custom macros,
templates, etc.

Thanks Terry

that worked fine. i did not have menus in safe mode so ran the start feature
and it brought up a new user registration and from there i had menus, in fact
my old custom menus! fine in normal mode too. thanks very much.

the reason i have been so long to reply, is that from my PC i keep getting
this site temporarily unavailable, or the page you requested is not
available, even from the notify email. seems to apply to all sub groups of
Word. so i tried from my partners PC, and as you can see i have access. i
have just tried from mine but still no access. i have checked for viruses and
get a clean check. i will have to research further, perhaps on ie news group.
also word is still very slow. will look at that too, and post a new request
if necescary.

thanks again Terrry
