all mirosoft apps - start windows installer

funning win '2000

All office XP applications
word
access
outlook
excel
power point
publisher (office 2000 version)
and explorer

start up a "windows installer" box
with a message of preparing to install ...
it goes away or will error out looking for *.msi files

I can not use program remove or start a cd installation it
complaines that the system can not locate the patch file,
with a message that mentions to call the product vendor.
