all ms word documents changed to gibberish. now are illegible

I turned on my Dell Inspiron 530S that uses Vista and all of my MS Word
documents are now illegible. All Docs look like gibberish and I don't think
it is html, because it looks different than all the html I have ever seen.
My Mozilla Icon on my desktop changed to IE on all my Word docs. Now there is
no icon except a check mark. I am desperate for help. Thank you in advance.

You've posted to the incorrect newsgroup. This one is for Microsoft Access,
you meant to go here...
