All my sheet tabs for previous worksheets have gone missing

I opened an Excel file with multiple worksheets for months of the year, to
find all these sheets missing and only the current month displayed.

Perhaps hidden?
Try click Format > Sheet > UnHide

Thank you Max but this hasn't worked because the sheets were not hidden. I
also tried Options - View- Sheet display but that had not been unchecked.
~Any more ideas, anyone.

Perhaps the missing sheets may have been "xlveryhidden"
- these won't show in Format > Sheet > UnHide

Try the sub below to unhide all sheets, taken from a post by macropod:

" .. If there are any other worksheets, they'll have been hidden with the
'xlveryhidden' property, which you'll need vba to unhide. For example:

Sub ShowAllSheets
Dim ws As Worksheet
For Each ws In ThisWorkbook.Sheets
ws.Visible = True
Next
End Sub

well, if that didn't surface the sheets that you expected, then guess they
weren't there in the first place. Perhaps you should ask the source party
for another copy of the book with all the sheets inside. These may have been
deleted in the earlier copy that you got.

No it is my original file authored and created by me - but I have worked it
out and pass this on for future use. As I said no sheets were hidden in
Format and in Options the option for viewing sheets was ticked. But they all
returned when I went to Window, Arrange, Tile and ticked Windows of Active
Workbook. My sheets and all data were then visible. Thank you for your
suggestions.

Glad to hear that you got resolved your issue.

Guess I'm still not really sure why:

Window, Arrange, Tile ticked Windows of Active Workbook

could have resulted in the impression as described in your original post
that all your sheet tabs were *missing* except for the current month's. But
it doesn't matter, what's important is you got all of it back <g>
