All Office 2003 apps slow to load files

Recently I have noticed that my Office 2003 (SP2) applications are slow to
open files. For example, if Outlook is downloading emails, I cannot open any
link in an existing email - it hangs until the last message has been
downloaded (I am on 512K broadband). If I open a Word or Excel document from
the Explorer, the system hangs for about 30 seconds, then loads the app and
the file.

Loading Word or Excel from the Start menu is still as fast as always.
Opening a file from Word or Excel is also fast. I only notice the delays from
Explorer (and while in Outlook).

Is it likely to be some registry issue? That's what I suspect.

And rather than using explorer, what happens if you use the Open Office
Document shortcut in your Start menu?

I thought there, just for a minute, you were trying to help me. Now I can see
you were just filling in time between smartass gigs. Don't let me hold you up
any more.

Sorry If you feel like that but kindly explain why you have to use explorer
when the open Office Doc shortcut works fine.
There are a number of reasons as to why you might experience problems using
explorer, they are usually as a result of a Win problem, not an office
problem

Merg to the max

ACT8 can cause this problem. It may have to do with how the ACT8 preload is
configured.
