All Office 2007 file types suddenly fail with Office 2003/Windows

Although I was previously able to open Office 2007 file types, now everything
fails. I cannot open any of them; I cannot save in any of them;
right-clicking to "Save As" fails. The error messages vary.

I have Windows 2000 and Office 2003. Windows Update shows everything is
fully updated. I have removed and re-installed FileFormatConverters with no
effect. Office 2003 appears to be working properly, but I have no access to
Office 2007 file types.
