all page numbers are 0

I am editing a document picked up from someone else, but
all the page numbers appear as 0 in the header and the
TOC. I've tried deleting/reinserting several times to no
avail. Word shows the correct page number at the bottom
of the display, and knows how many pages are in the
document. Sometimes, when the header is first displayed
for editing, the correct page number appears, then is
immediately replaced with 0.

I had the same problem and found out that because I had a
graphic inserted into a table in the header, it screwed up
the page numbering. I removed the table, put the graphic
directly into the header, with my text and the problem
disappeared. Good Luck!
