All pages numbered 1

I tried to number the pages in a Word 2000 document,
something I have done dozens of times with no problem.
The result this time was that all the pages were numbered
1. First, I used the menu insert page number, then I
tried going to the footer and pressing on the # tab. When
that did not help, I tried Ctrl F9 and PAGE, with the same
result. All the pages are numbered 1. Copying the text
(52 pages) into a new document also did not help.

Can you help me?

Is it possible that each page is a separate section? This is often the case
in merged documents such as form letters and labels. If numbering is set to
"Start at 1" instead of "Continue from previous section," then each section
(page) will start with 1.

Thank you, but
not each page is a section and
it is set to "continue from precious section".
Do you have any other ideas?

And another unrelated question:
When I try to reply to the newsgroup through Outlook
Express, I get a message that the message cannot be sent
because there is no sender name, "check your
configuration". What does this mean?

This reply was sent through the newsgroups site.

I'm out of ideas on your original problem (though you might have a look at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumber0.htm in case there's
something similar going on). As for the OE problem, it would appear that you
didn't specify a From name (or address) in the account setup. Neither the
name nor the email address need be real, but the address must be in the form
of a valid email address. For more, see
