All styles to come across in a mail merged document

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Power PC I a mail merge document that uses three styles: Heading 1, Heading 2, and Normal. When I create the merged document, the fields that had been set up with Heading 1 have that style associated with them. However, the fields that are supposed to have Heading 2 are set to Normal, although the Heading 2 style characteristics come across (bold, font type and size).
Is this a bug or by design?

Check that the paragraph mark has the style applied to it.

Unless the paragraph mark has the style, only the character properties of
the style have been applied, and so only the character properties will come
across.

Cheers
