Alledged Mismatched Version prevents update installation

I have my PC set up so that it automatically checks for windows and office
update and then installs them.

Recently it announced that it was downloading a new version of windows
installer.

Since then it won't / can't install office updates.

They are downloaded OK but when it installs them it comes back with the
following message: -

" the installed product does not match the installation source. Until a
matching source is provided or the installed product and source are
synchronised, this action cannot be performed"

The file window offers these choices: -

C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

The first one comes saying it can't find PROll.MSI and the second, to look
on the installation CD, can't find the file either. A search of the PC for
PRO11.MSI can't find one either.

What's going on and how do i get out of this? Where it has got the idea
there are mismatched versions from I don't know as i only have the one
installation CD for office XP

Gratefull for any help

I'm having the same exact problem, yet mine is Office XP Professional 2002
and is asking for PRO.MSI and all I have on the CD is PRORET.MSI. When I
try and use it, the computer tells me it is an invalid installation file for
this version! I got the CD from Gateway when I bought the computer! I'd
love to know what to do!
