Allow access to only 1 table in protected DB

Chuck Elsham

Hello,

We use an MDB to store system settings for my company's software.

Is there a way I can give users access to only 1 table from an Access
97 password protected DB.

If I create a link to that table only in a new MDB I have to specify
the password when I create it (ie the *new* mdb), will the users be
able to find out the password - is it shown in the new MDB anywhere?

Many thanks
Rob

Yes, the database password is easily discernable in the new MDB. You can
find it with notepad.

Better to user proper "user level security". However, that is a quite a
complex beast to learn, with many traps for the unwary. Download & study a
copy of the Access Security FAQ. Experiment on some throw-away copies of
your database. Expect to spend at least a few weeks, to get a reasonable
handle on it.

HTH,
TC
