Allow multiple language dictionaries simultaneously

Using OneNote as a foundation for research allows considerable flexibility.
Within the academic community there is a considerable volume of papers that
are written using U.K. based English language. As a result there are always
words flagged as incorrect when in fact it is consistent with the proper
dictionary. If multiple dictionaries were allowed, this would alleviate this
annoyance.

I'm sure this may apply to other individuals and possibly to other
dictionaries that might be needed simultaneously.

OneNote already uses multiple spelling dictionaries. You need to make sure
text is marked with the right language using Tools/Set language. Any English
version of Onenote has spelling for UK, US, Canadian and Australian English,
plus French (France and Canada) and Spanish (Spain), You can get others from
the Office 2003 "proofing tools" product.

Chris,

Is there any way to insure that more than one dictionary is active at any
one time. I have literally hundreds of academic papers. The majority are in
US english. I do have a good number of papers that are in UK, Canadian, and
Australian english. It is not advantageous to switch back and forth between
the dictionaries whenever a new paper is opened.

They are all active at any time. Which one is used is determined by the
language formatting on the text. This is just like Word, and is different
from, say, Excel, where you decide the language of speller to be used for an
entire workbook, even if two languages are used in one workbook.

If you have a paper in US English, just Ctrl-A all of it, then use Tools/Set
language and choose US English. This formats the text as US English (same as
you might format it as "Bold") That tells the spelling system to use that
flavor of English for that specific text, and leaves it free to use a
different flavor for other text (always depending on what language you tell
Onenote the text is). Do the same for each paper so it gets the correct
language formatting.

If you are saying that you want to "allow" all types of spellings for any
text and not mark them as errors as long as any flavor of English allows
them (kind of a "superset" English), then you're out of luck. On the other
hand, you probably don't really want that, since it allows inconsistencies
to creep into documents (you might spell "colour" in an edit you make, but
elsewhere it is spelled "color" and both are marked correct - although
mixing spelling in a single paper is a no-no.)
