Outlook should be able to print mailing labels directly from selected
Contacts rather than having to export to Word and/or Excel.

Outlook is a PIM, not a word processor - why should it?

Are you saying mailmerge doesn't work for you?

Haven't you ever wanted to send a marketing/mailing piece to a few "selected"
contacts (either family or business)? A simple way to create a custom print
layout for labels, or a template, would make the task simple and easy.
Exporting selected contacts to another program just takes more time than it
should.

K

Yes, mail merge works, it's just that being able to create a custom
print/template to save/use for printing "selected" contacts to labels would
make the task so much quicker and easier than exporting out to Word or Excel.

You aren't paying attention. The feature you request has existed for every
version of Outlook. No exporting has ever been necessary.

K

Then please direct me to where I can locate the info. I have tried and have
also searched the help section in every version of Outlook - not there that
I can find. If you know more, then please share the info with those of us
who are not "paying attention"

Well documented in every Help file and on the Web. Look up "mail merge."

Obviously you are the one who isn't paying attention.

I know how to use mail merge, the issue is printing labels directly from
Outlook quick and easy - WITHOUT using another program. Maybe, if you aren't
going to be helpful, you should keep your comments and opinions to yourself.
If you don't work for Microsoft then you can't help and your attitude is
merely condesending and annoying.

The addition of a single template would solve the problem. This shouldn't
be too tough for Microsoft to provide since the components are already
included in Outlook.
It would be a simple "fix" and should be added to the next upgrade.

Should? SHOULD? As I replied - Outlook is a PIM, NOT a word processor. Why
should Outlook duplicate the function of Word?

R

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

Of course I was paying attention. I took you at your word. All you said is
that you wanted to create labels without exporting contacts. Only now have
you modified your request to indicate you are also unwilling even to use
another program.
That request, of course, is neither realistic nor reasonable. It requires
far more than "simply creating a template." It requires hundreds of lines of
word processing code. That code exists in Word. That code will not and never
should exist in Outlook. Adding word processing code to Outlook is a huge
waste of resources and would make the program almost unusable. There is a
reason that the Office Suite exists: to allow integration among its programs
so that code does not have to be duplicated.
If understanding why and how things happen isn't helpful to you, then I'm
not sure what you want us to do. Mail merges to existing templates are
hardly difficult or time consuming and never require exporting your
contacts.
