"Allow scripts or programs to be run" grayed out on directory! How to set

I'm new to FrontPage and wanted to set a directory with "Allow scripts
or programs to be run" set (I assume this will force the execute bit
on the target Unix server). It's grayed out! What am I missing?

It has to be done live on the server. It "should" already be set that way if you're publishing to
UNIX. It "usually" is.

I'm not sure what you mean 'live on the server.' In FP I 'open site'
then select MyNetworkPlaces the live site 'www.mydomain.com'. The live
site comes up and appears normal. Then I select the CGI directory cgi
(this server calls it cgi not cgi-bin), properties and the option is
grayed out. What am I missing?

If it's a server running UNIX you will have to do it via the web masters Control panel

yes, that is your live site.

Setting the excute permission *might* be something your host has to set - but
otherwise it should already be done that way.

Have you tried running a script from cgi-bin?

I have tried running a script after setting the execute permissions
and everything works OK. That said, it's a pain to have to do it
manually.

I have also tried opening the site on the Unix server and using
tools-server-administration home (couldn't find anything that might
help).

If I set the permissions on the cgi script to 755 all is well. It's a
bit of a pain to do them by hand and I read on MS that FP would set
them for me.
