Allow users to edit data in this field by using Datasheet orproperties page - weird behavior

When publishing, when I select this option for specific fields, I am
presented with a dialog box that says "The selected field's data type
cannot be edited on SharePoint"

Three are Text (string) data types and one is a whole number integer

Strange thing is that there are other fields I don't get this error on
that are Text (string) and whole number integer data types as well and
nothing stands out to me as different on the ones I'm getting an error
on.

Anything in particular I need to know about field characteristics
relative to this error?
